Best Defragger

I don't know which one is the best but the one I use and find good is called :

Iobit SmartDefrag

I just use windows built in defragger to be honest, but for third-party, I've heard that O&O Defrag is good. :)

My computer is close to always on.
Working on a lot of stuff.

So thats good?

Thanks

Yeah it's good but since your pc is on running alot and is a heavily used computer I would go with Diskeeper Lite. Made for heavily used pc's.

The one that comes with windows isn't so great.

No probably not, but it has always sufficed for my system so far, so its not something I really bother with. Others have recommended O&O to me though. :)

I found the best way to defrag is to run the windows defrag 3-5 times consecutively on each partition. You end up with all the files compacted together and a noticeable decrease in time it takes to boot up

there is one that runs al the time. if you delete something it defrages. it wont wipe out performance and it can be done with what ever your working on at the time with no loss performance. its hard to get used to. for me anyway. and setting it up is too hard. even for me! oh well, other get it up and running in minutes. for get what the name was.

defrag on the fly

hello,

The program that i use to defrag my drive is DIRMS it is free from www.dirms.com
It allows you to defrag your hard drive while you use your computer and it works very well.

You can even defrag another computer connected to your netwotk with this program.

Can you make your window defragger defrag by itself every so often??
Yup, when you launch the Windows Defragger (Vista), you can schedule it. In XP I believe you need to do what the above poster said and go to the scheduled task manager.

I use Diskeeper Pro 2007 (trial version), and from all the free trial versions I tried out (PD, O&O etc), this one defragged my drive fastest. Also was able to defrag the MFT and leave the whole thing on its automatic defragmentation mode. Very happy with the program so far. My free trial expires in a few days, so I think I'll buy the full version after that.

I also tried a couple of the more popular free defraggers, but didn't like their UI or performance all that much.

diskeeper is hands down the best defrag out there

it's fast, multi-threaded, runs multiple passes, and you can just leave it running 24/7, and it automatically analyzes and keeps your hard drives defragged when your cpu is idling

you never even have to think about it again once it's installed. it's that reliable
