im thinking about making a nice gaming/video editing desktop. what would be a good setup for playing the latest games and vido capturing/editing. im looking for the best parts out that will be under 3k. also on the upcoming videocards that are coming out

You can get a very nice gaming machine for way under $3k with parts from newegg.
When i configured a really nice comp, this is what i got:

AMD X2 4800+
4GB Corsair ValueSelect DDR400
2x 200GB SATAII Hard Drives
Really nice case, MX518 mouse, Eclipse Keyboard
19" LCD 8ms monitor
2x DVD+/-RW DL Burners
7800GTX 256MB
A really nice ASUS motherboard w/ SLI (dont remember what one exactly)
Creative X-Fi
Some other add-on's and controller panels.

Total came to around $2,500.

thats a damn nice computer, but u could save some money on some of the parts like the monitor and the case. im sure he doesnt have to spend a 120 dollars on a case and that there is a 19 inch monitor for less than 400 dollars.

The possiblities are pretty much endless. For 3k you can get pretty much anything you want.

That case is beautiful and the monitor's a 19 inch 4 MS ! :eek::eek:

If he has the money, why not give him real good stuff?

its 4ms gray-to-gray, not from black to white, so its not really 4ms response. And you can get a really nice 19" LCD for around $300-$350.

I agree about the value RAM. RAM is one thing where you usually get what you pay for. I generally stay away from any brand of RAM that has the word "value" in it's name. It's always a gamble.

Otherwise that system would be awsome!

i would cut out on some places, and get a 2nd 7800GTX in SLI.
and build the rest of the pc around the grafics.
i mean.. its for gaming after all..

some times a case is well worth the expense especially if it has nice cooling and plenty of space, nice processor but does anyone think that it would be worth getting the fx 57? are they around the same price. i dont think that four gigs of ram is important just get maybe two gigs of good ram

The man said gaming and video editing. ;)

SLI is for high res gaming.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811144157 is this a decent case. also what is the benefits of side air duct?

also with the 7800GTX do u think it is neccessary to get 2 of them to optimize my games?
The benefits of a side air duct is that it sucks air in to the pc and shoots it right on the CPU to help with cooling.

You really only need 2 7800GTX if you are in to Gaming at highresolutions. I don't know if i would get 2 of them right off the bat. I mean one would do great.

Well, The FX57 will give some benefits now, but later, when apps and games designed for multicore platforms come out (such as UT2K7 which I'm waiting for eagerly), the 4800+ will have an advantage. As Praetor said, it's a 150 FPS vs. 130 FPS. case.

That case is pretty good, and very good looking, but may I suggest this case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811146008
Which I think you might like. Of course, we would be taking out the power supply that comes with it, cause they're always cheap. In this case, 17A @ 12V !! Clearly not a good PSU.
