best fire wall

I dunno about the best to be honest but Zonealarm free gets the job done :)
Also Ashampoo firewall is good...however im not sure if their free offer is still on anymore.
 
if you're gonna BUY a firewall, i'd look into an actual hardware firewall

isn't any more effective, but doesn't gobbe up your resources, and secures the entire network
 
Just buy a router that supports NAT and SPI firewall and you most likely don't need a software based firewall if you are a smart user. I haven't ran software based firewalls in years and have no problems on my network at home.
 
Yes a router with a built in firewall is best.. unless your dial-up..like me (who is anymore???) so i use sunbelt kerio.
