My McAfee is about to expire (9 days left), and instead of buying a new license, I was wondering whats the best, FREE, lightest anti-virus available?

Thanks!

I would go with Avast.

I went with Avast. I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials first, but when I go to install, it says,"corrupt file", so I went with Avast.

Avast all the way. I used to be an Avira guy, but they have way too many advertisements nowadays, and Avast has better detection rates.

Avast and Norton are resource hogs among many others. I have used Microsoft security essentials for the past 2yrs and have had NO issues what so ever. I also download about 2gb plus worth of LEGAL torrents every day. Even though they are legal does NOT mean they are "safe". MSS consumes very little resources and works very well not to mention it is FREE.

Norton has changed a lot and is far less a resource hog than it used to be. Avast isn't at all, I'm using it currently.
