the Cmedia card will do music better than directional audio, but can game just fine. If you want better music, that is the card for you.

There seems to be a disturbing lack of audiophiles on this site. :(

I recommend JVC and Sennheiser. JVC is good for the price. I like the sound quality of my XX HA-M5X which are about $35. The build quality sucks arse, but the sound is okay. Sennheiser is pretty much the best you can get, but you have to pay well for their quality. A HT-Omega sound card would be about the minimum to take advantage of them.

these are all very good and less than 300. Though you still need a very good sound card to back them up.

Lack of audiophiles? Not when Neva and myself are around :D Very jelly of his headphone amp. I may have to go buy one.

I'd personally get an external dac instead of a internal card.
There are also many great brands to choose from for cans:
AKG, Sennheiser, Grado, Denon, Audio Technica, Fischer Audio, Beyerdynamic, plus many others.
Frankly in general terms none of those brands are better then each other in listening acoustics, it all comes down to personal taste and what genre of music you prefer. Then finding a pair of cans that is the best suited match for you given those factors.
