Best Laptop Computer??

First of all I'd like to say Hi, I'm a newbie! O.K. My question is........
I'm planning on going to my local college for their Multimedia Graphic Design Program, and was wondering which notebook would be the best. I would also be using this notebook for daily use and for other school necessities, i.e. book reports, ect. I'd like a good but kind of cheap one.

Thanks!!:D

Well, let me start off by saying welcome to Computer Forums. Stick around and I'll bet you'll learn a thing or two along the way :).

First, we really need to know what kind of budget you are working with. You said you would like to keep it kind of cheap so that honestly takes out "the best laptops". But if you give us a budget we should be able to find something that fits the bill.

First thing I would recommend would be a dedicated graphics card. Other than that we need a budget to suggest actual "good" laptops within your financial grasp. ;)

Edit: Oops, Jmedina got to ya before me lol.

is it possible to install a mac OS X on my ibm laptop? i.e. does mac OS have hardware incompatibility with laptops other than macbook?

Mac OS X has to be installed on a mac. Due to the fact that there is a difference and blocks are made. For different macs you can go to www.store.apple.com. Also, Mac has a refurbished section which has good machines. It is http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APP...rowse&mco=3929D548&node=home/specialdeals/mac You can get a Macbook Pro and get a program called Boot Camp and run Windows XP or Vista. But, You still have to buy the Windows software if you go that way. What programs are you going to be using most?

That's Great! 2 GB RAM is great for vista! The Hard Drive is a little small. Are you going to store tons of music and photos on it? Other than that, It is Perfect!

How long do computer companies normally hold their versions for??? Because I won't be able to get it unitl March 2008. It looks like they've had this model since Feburary 2007.

I don't mean to seem out of line here, but if you don't plan on buying until March theres really no reason to look at laptops right now because technology changes all the time. It's good to learn what specs to look at a laptop now, but to suggest a laptop 6+ months before you plan on purchasing is really meaningless.

Thats Very True, I'm really just trying to Figure out what would be best for me. I suggested this computer and am satisfied with the response, so now I will know what to look for when the time comes, and if I still like this particular laptop in 6+ months, then I will get it, but for now, I'm just researching. :)

Ok I think I found a suitable laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1501, Memory: 2GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHZ, 2 DIMM; Hard Drive: 120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM); Video Card: ATI RADEON® Xpress1150 256MB HyperMemory™ (Integrated);
I really have no clue what most of that stuff is, all I know is that it has 2GB.

Tell me what y'all think!!

I realize your not going to be buying for a while, but if you were going to get the low end Dell listed at $499, I'd stay away from it. Sempron is AMD's low-end budget processor. Since your going to school for multimedia graphic design I'd think that you'd be using some semi-demanding programs (such as Photoshop or Flash) and a Sempron wouldn't hold up to well.

I'd definetely spend atleast $750 on your laptop when the time comes.
