Ok well my budget is 600 MAX, but I'm looking to spend 500. I want some thing to be able to do mild gaming, mine craft, kernel space program, etc. so dedicated graphics would be nice, but I don't need to play any mmo rpg or fps games on medium or high settings but playing newer games on decent settings would be nice, and I'm looking for a big screen. 17 inch preferable but 15 is ok. Also would like at least a 720 p resolution. And a decent size hard drive. Also I hate how laptops tend to have a really really low volume I like to be able to watch movies on it lol. But yeah budget is 600 MAX but I wanna spend about 500. Thanks for the help guys

Edit: I will be buying from bestbuy at the mall near me but if its considerably cheaper to buy from the manufacturer online I may consider that.

just saw this thread...i just made my own thread about a laptop around $500, lol. ill bump this up... i was also looking on bestbuys site

what I would recommend is buying a used dell xps 1730 you can pick one up off of ebay for around 430 to 500usd. It has a 17 inch screen 1920x1200 resolution, sli 8700m gt's 2.5ghz dual core processor 4mb cache the design of the case is amazing with backlit keyboard and lid lighting it will handle your games well buying something from bestbuy will be stuck with the a series graphics which will let you down.

dell is a terrible brand (too many bad experiences with dell) don't get a dell my old 2009 one the cd drive was falling apart then the motherboard crashed and they sent me a replacement one and it broke again and i send it back to Dell again they sent me a brand new then and then the sound and screen stopped working. I gave up on it and returned it to dell and built a custom pc and hp overheats. At my local pc shop the top two brands he gets the most to be repaired is dell and hp. He said toshiba was okay. Also don't get alien it is just overpriced junk

dells xps line is not junk, because you purchased a crappy dimension desktop and are basing your review soley on that your ignorant dells dimension line is not meant for any gaming at all and the parts are all cheap and it has no fans at all in most models as a consumer do your research on the products before you buy and dont go spraying that oh dell is shit because you had one bad dell computer.

Dell is one of the few companies that you get what you pay for still. I have hand my Precision and Latitude laptops through hell and back and they still work just fine (minus a slight power issue stemming form me being lazy to replace the power adapter on the Precision). Albeit, that both of them new would have been far north of $1500, they are well worth it.

I don't know about the XPS line, but the Inspiron designs are quite low end from my experiences. The cases have no where near teh rigidity of their business laptops.
