Best laptop gpu? gtx 480m vs ati mobility 5870?

Hey just wondering what you guys though about these two mobile cards, gtx 480m versus mobility ati 5870. From what I have learned, in the world of laptops the gtx480 reigns superior, but how do these two cards rate as far as cooling? How about if they are crossfired or sli'd(2x). What do you guys think about cost, cooling, performance, etc?

I figure two cards of course will be better than one, there's just a few specifics i'm unclear on. One, is there a loss of fps when cards enter into crossfire or sli mode worse than when it is just one card on it's own? Two, aside from a good notebook cooler is there anything more I need to or can do to keep these cards as well as other components running cool? Thanks.

id hate to brute force this but, are you going to be moving alot to need the mobile graphics processing power? or can you settle for sitting in one place with a desktop, heat kills components and thats the only reason i ask, as there is nearly no good way to cool most of these buggers without having a leaf blower (in terms of amount of airflow) on them and those tiny notebook fans usually cannot do that.

i just dont trust this whole 'mobile gaming' thing, i think for the money you can get alot more out of a desktop without the hassle of the parts failing and you having to run back to the manufacturer when something fails

Well I do move around a lot(once a month) and was hoping for a mobile solution, but powerful enough for any game out there because I really like to game when i'm not making music. I need this rig to really handle it comparitively with a desktop, and I gotta be able to get up and go at a moment's notice. I do a bit of travelling and gotta take my work with me at times. Should I get the most expensive laptop cooler then? Laptops burnin out, can't be havin that. Whether it's a power/surge protector, laptop cooler, special heatsink or whatever, I gotta know. Cause my stuff needs to stay at a good temperature for what i'm thinking of. Just show me what to get, i'll figure out the rest.

xFire/SLi generally gains around 70% more performance than a single card. There are plenty of laptop coolers on the market, though these tend to be expensive and ineffective. Maybe a chill mat? The laptop shouldn't die without extra cooling however, it'll have warranty. With a laptop there isn't much else you can do as far as cooling is concerned, though this shouldn't matter if its plugged into the mains, is in working order, and not on your lap :P

all i can say is research your model, make sure it doesnt have alot of people asking 'hey why does it do this and that' otherwise even with a warranty, you may end up with a lemon :/ ive seen the large 18.4 inch toshiba with the i7 720 and the radeon 5xxx card have some issues with its cooling solution, and i really did trust toshiba, sadly i guess they just 'did it wrong' with that one

Budget can be as high as necessary, but I need something that won't fry and can really handle gaming well. A "desktop replacement" I guess. I've been looking at this one among others from other sites, but so far I like the upgrade options on this one the best. http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Xplorer_X7_Xtreme_S2_Notebook/

That look good. (expect it is expensive)
I suggest you stay with core i7 950. 0.14 GHz don't worth $290

SSD - Consair seems to have faster write & read time
