Best Laptop to Buy?

I am a college student who is about to buy a new laptop, and I was wondering if anyone had some good suggestions for any model they have had a good experience with or heard good things about. I do some gaming but not a ton, so I want at least a decent GPU but a great one is not a must. A 1TB HDD should be fine and 8-12 GB of RAM should be fine as well. I have no preference for touch screens and 15.6" would be the preferred screen size. Currently I have an HP Envy and it's not durable and it heats up like crazy so those are 2 things I would like to avoid with my next laptop. I'm looking for a windows machine and I'm willing to spend in the $1000-$1200 range on it. Thanks in advance.

You'd be much better off getting an SSD instead of an old school mechanical drive, although in that price range you'd probably be looking at around 256GB. Would that work?

256 Probably won't cut it. I'm aware of the drawbacks that an HDD has but I need the extra space.

Going to say it again - dell insprion 7559, spec it out as you please and you should be happy with it, only issue its on the heavy side - its no ultrabook but it gets decent battery life with its 74 watt hour battery.
