Best media board

What is the best board and processor for a non-gamer? I do alot of movies, music, pics...you get the jist. I'm wanting to run 2x Seagate 250mb hd, a fairly good sound card, a dvd burner(NEC 3520A), and a dvd rom. Any suggestions would be great.

You don't give enough information to answer that question. What type processor, what speeds, what psu, what ram etc.
You can get very good boards from Asus, Abit and MSI.
All three are excellent choices but lack of info from you makes any more specific recommendations just a guess.

I was told not to go with a type A board,I was told not to go with a P4...not sure why. I want 1gb of ram at least, a fairly fast processor(something that works well for multitasking) Like I said...I don't do games mainly movies, music, etc.

I would disagree with the P4 statement. Pentiums usually perform slightly better for media applications and other things. AMD's usually slightly better for gaming, but since you aren't doing any of that, I'd go with a Pentium.

I agree that P4 is the way to go except for the new AMD X2 cpus.
P4 look for at least a socket 478 or better (915)
AMD go with socket 754 or the newer 939. NO socket A.
You haven't mentioned a graphics card. Are you going to use an exsisting card or go new pci-e or??

if ur gonna get amd get a dual core....
You say that as if its something specail on an AMD chip, Intel have dual core aswell, a whole range of them. Dual core isnt something sspecial to AMD and in most cases AMD dont out-do Intel in dual core tests.

if youve got the monney, go for a Pentium 830. its a pentium Dual core prosessor.
but a normal Pentium 4 HT (like a 3.4 GHz) will do just fine to :)

250gb?

well it seems like all your media isn't that processor demanding, besides maybe the pic (editing i assume)? You can look for one of the cheaper dual core processers others said, but you might be fine with just a p4. What's your budget?
