Best mini pad to download movies

I want to purchase a decently priced mini
to mostly watch movies. The big issue is
I have limited data during daytime hours
so I will need to download between midnight
and 5 am. I don't have to download a bunch
at one time but 4 or 5 would be good.
Net surfing would also be the other big use
I'm not into games much.
Was considering Samsung 8" but read
downloading movies to SD card doesn't work
well. Is this true?

not sure, but i do like my note iii, so not really sure where they are getting the issues, might be having issues installing games to SD card which is pretty much a developer problem. but also id say what you are hinting at is not legal...so i dont think i can help with that...is wifi going to be hard to come by that much and netflix is not an option?

Movies don't download on the iPad, they are streamed, so data is used while you are watching the movie. The iPad doesn't even have an SD card slot.

EDIT: Guess you meant tablet, even if you went with an Android tablet the video apps are streaming based. The YouTube for Android app lets you pre-download a certain number of YouTube videos though.

So when putting movies on a Micro SD and watching them on a tablet you must consider two things....

1. Not all Micro SD cards are made equally, You don't have to buy the most expensive one but don't buy the cheapest either. SD and Micro SD cards just like any drive have read and write speeds, so if the tablet has a HD screen and you are watching HD movies then make sure the Micro SD card is a class 10 type.

2. You also must remember when picking up a tablet you need to look at the codec support, when you buy a cheaper tablet they usually do not offer as many different codecs because in a legal world this cost them more money for licensing reasons. Lack of codecs equals lack of video format support therefore will have issues playing the videos.

So??? Is the first poster saying it is illegal
to buy movies and download them? I have
an IPhone so I looked at ITunes and it said,
Rent or Buy? Guess I don't understand that
post!
We are on satallite and it costs roughly
10 dollars a G. Living in the country we
started with dial up. Where we live only one
company will even service us. So it is expensive
We currently get 3G for 39.99 a month.
Would could go up one more and get 5G for
69.99. The next option is way over 100.
So streaming is not an option.
So am I understanding if I bought a Samsung
8" and bought a 64G card I can't download
movies.
Sorry I don't understand I am older and the
computer age is almost beyond me.

Do you live in the USA? The satellite internet I've seen is nowhere near that bad here.

You can download movies to your computer within iTunes, but I don't believe you can download them to an iPad - you can only stream.

Could you provide a link or model number for the samsung tablet and I will be able to give you better answers.

WRXGuy1, the poster in both post says they are wanting a Samsung Tablet. I am not sure where you keep coming up with ipad?

I believe the OP is interested in this tablet: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab/SM-T3100ZWYXAR

I have no direct experience with that tablet but have experience with other Samsung tablets as well as other Android tablets and have downloaded and watched movies using the internal storage, SD cards and external storage with very satisfactory results. I can't imagine that downloading movies to the SD card on this Samsung tablet would be a problem. However, I see a review at the above link that mentions issues with downloading movies but the issue is not with the tablet itself but with the service (Google Play) the movie is being downloaded from. Most of the movies I use on my tablets I get from ripping DVDs that I own and I don't download many from any of the services. Services like Netflix, Google Play, Hulu, etc... don't really want you to download movies, they are designed for streaming. If they do allow you to download a movie, they restrict where the movie can be downloaded to as well as what format the movie is stored in so as to prevent you from copying the movie and using it on other devices, This is mostly about DRM and licensing, not anything to do with the hardware.

I think the OP should really ask the question: Can anyone recommend a good site/service to download movies from?

Thanks Strollin, great straight forward answer!
I am not tied to any mini tablet. Mini is cheaper.
This is my thinking. Ipad mini pretty expensive
and would need at least 32G. Nexus also
would need 32G. Thought if I did Samsung 8"
tablet I could buy SD card and buy less internal
memory. All this might be wrong just my thoughts
and I don't know much about it. Never dreamed
downloading some old movies would be such an
issue!
Now that said I was wrong about internet cost.
10G is 49.99, 15G is 79.99, 20G or 25G is
129.99 which is out of our retirement budget.
We are using almost 15G since it has gotten
cold and we are inside more. So, it won't
Support streaming for sure. Wildblue is the
company.
Maybe I'll forget the movie watching and get
a mini tablet just to surf and read. I use
my phone now and I get a headache after
a short time.
Thanks everyone and if anyone knows where
I can download some movies, don't have to be
new release (last movie I saw at a theatre was
The Green Mile) lol please post.

If it is the Samsung Strollin listed then yes that will play movies just fine, it does have a 720p screen so you can get away with a class 2 micro SD but I recommend a class 4 or 6 cause they will play 720p smoother and not to mention you will be able to transfer the videos on them 2-3x faster then on a class two.

As were to get the video's I would start looking into buying movies in which offer digital copies which you normally get when you buy the physical media from a store. This would be the best way in order to obtain the media. I don't know really any legal websites since most videos are DRM which is more easily done through streaming, it will be hard to find a website in which lets you download since pirating is such a big thing today.

One more question. I bought a season of
Army Wives from ITunes. It is loaded on my
iPhone. So if I watch this is it streaming?
Or is it saved and stored?
Also ITunes has movies that say 4.99 rent or
Buy for 12.99 so what is the difference?

I guess this is why I kept thinking iPad, because you reference "mini" and "pad" and iTunes. Your iTunes movie and TV show purchases only exist in iTunes, and as far as I know you can't sync those movies bought on iTunes with an Android tablet.

If you like old movies & TV shows, you'd be surprised at how many older ones can be found on YouTube. There are ways to save those from YouTube to your SD card so you can watch them later when not connected to the internet.

Sorry I have an IPhone so I have ITunes on it.
I am aware I can't cross over if I go with Samsung.
Thank you again Strollin I was not aware UTube had
Movies or TV shows. I'll check that out.
