Best MPEG2 playback?

OK, first, let me clearify something. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I make copies of my DVDs so I can mess them up when on vacation and such. I have the legal DVD, I just don't like to use the original as I can be rough with them

So anyway... I'm wondering what the best DVD/MEPG decoder is... On basically every computer I've owned, when I try to play back such DVDs, they lock up at the same place. Once I close the player and open it again, I can skip past that point and it'll work fine for another 10-15 minutes before locking up again. Now I know the DVD's are fine because they'll play on my DVD-Recorder/Player(connected to a TV)

I had this problem with my previous laptop, my current laptop, and I beleive my past two desktops(yet to try this one...) I feel almost certain it's the decoder software, but I'm not sure what else is out there... I beleive I've been using PowerDVD because that's what comes with all my DVD drives...

Any ideas?

You don't understand... They all rely on other codecs! I suppose I should of specied... I use Media Player Classic or Power DVD. Both use the same codec, both mess up at the exact same points. I beleive Windows Media Player does the same, as well...

I've got it installed... Eh, I'm not really fond of it. I'll give the DVD's a shot sometime but I'd much rather stick with Media Player Classic.

Your problem is a hardware problem (overheating DVDrom) and not a codec problem. PowerDVD should do just fine, expecially since it uses few memory resources. I have version 5 playing quite well on an old system that is using a 16 meg Voodoo 2000 and a 1 gig P3.

I use Power DVD. What I find funny (ironic) is that if I have disks play bad it's actually in my DVD player and my computer plays everything.

You want to know what the best decoder is and I have to suggest Power DVD. It works for me, and I thinks it's own some awards.
