Best OS for a slow PC

HI all,
Dad has and old PC and i was going to reformat it and put a OS on,

not sue of the spec but i think a 1.4 Celeron with 8MB of ram so quite slow

i was wondering what the best OS would be , i think i read somewhere that WIN7 is quite good for low specced laptops, but just wanted to run it by you guys

We haven't used 8 MB of ram UN even low spec computers in over 15 years, and with a 1.4GHz CPU it probably has more like 256MB. I would say XP is the best. Win7 is good for 2006+ PCs.
 
Yeah probably XP but it's only got about 4 months of support left on it.

7 or 8 might be OK but if this PC is too old then you might not be able to find drivers for 7 or 8.

Stay away from Vista.
