hello-first post YAY!

anywho, ive been wanting to get into pc sound recording for sometime and now ive finally! got the money for one. Ive saved up $3100AU or $2,380 USD and im really not sure what to get. i know im gonna need lots of memory a good sound card and a gig or over of ram but exactly what ram, hardrives ect to get im not sure. im a noob when it comes to pc building so if anyone could help out with what they think would be a kick ass system for that price range , it would be VERY! much appreciated!!

the audigy 4 for the sound card
dfi nf4 ultra
4800X2
hitachi 500gig sataII
ocz powerstream 520 or 600

that there is pretty much it for the main stuff, u can get a 6600gt if u want to, is this pc just for sound recording b/c then u dont rly need a good vid card

do u have good speakers? the logitech 5500 is pretty good

otherwise the rest doesnt rly matter

i was thinking of getting the m-audio delta 1010lt souncard because of the inbuilt mic pre-amps and ive heard good things about it.

im going to be using it for mostly recording, but also for photoshop and a tiny bit of gaming.
also should i go pentium or amd?
thanks

the amd dual cores are better than the intel dual cores in both multitasking and gaming but they do cost alot. if u can afford the 4800X2 then definetly go for it

1. Get a professional set of speakers and a pro-grade soundcard

He said he wanted a professional sound oriented system. Not a gaming machine. ;)

It probably wont horribly matter all that much ... if your budget supports it ... the Athlon64 X2 is the route to go.

Except the 4800 is overkill .... the 4400 or 4200 both out of the box and OCd are much better choices from a performance/cost ratio.

He'll want to get real studio monitors if he's recording. They produce a more accurate sound and allow you to hear what is wrong with a recording. Regular speakers are meant to make stuff sound good.

Bingo ... most consumer speakers are oriented about providing "loud" rather than "sound" :)

thanks alot!

what ram can/should i get? i know i want atleast a gig but what type of ram i dont know (sorry for an incredibly noob qeustion, but i need to know :o )

I suppose a gig should be enough. Look in RAM 101 for some ideas. I would think you would want some low timings (with that money you can afford it), so look for so CAS Latencies of 2.0. Stick to the big names suggested by Praetor in RAM 101.

doesnt matter all that much.. you should focus on quantity rather than speed.. do have a look at RAM 101.

You dont need to get CAS2 memory, CAS2.5 or CAS3 is sufficient (preferablly CAS2.5) ... 1GB of basic CAS2.5 memory (say, Corsair's ValueSelect line) should be a sufficient starting point :)
