Best portable hard drives?

I'm looking at a 250GB Western Digital hard drive to keep all my multimedia on. I usually only use my PC for work, plus I don't like to keep a lot of stuff on my computer because it slows down virus scanning. I want something small and mobile. But I've heard of people having problems such as the PC not reading the drive. Is this only with WD, or every passport? I'm looking for one that will last a LONG time, if not forever until USB gets outdated. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I've got 3 WD externals and my pc reads them fine. The WD my book is a good soild harddrive. Mine is the WD 500 and I also have 2 160gb.

Does it matter if it's a portable drive/passport or a regular large hard drive? Cause I'm not looking at the bigger models, I'm looking at something like...

It will be fine most people use the passport for a laptop since it easier to carry around.
