best to have more ram? or better ram?

I've got 8gb of stock ram thinking about replacing 2 slots with some dominator or something like this (and keeping the other 2 stock stick as well), is that possible or do i have to replace all 4 slots with the same ram? it holds 16gb and i know 8 is plenty so shouldn't i just upgrade with better ram?

Are you noticing any problems with your ram? If not I think that either upgrade is a waste of money. For your original question, I would say that if you have over 4gb of ram it is better to spend the extra money on better speed and cooling rather than on more ram.

well i have i5-650 but have a i7-875k sitting in the box waiting for thermaltake case and cooler master heatsink to arrive, then ill put it all together. so having like 1600 mhz or more ram wouldn't be better for the 875k?
