Best Value SSD

I may be missing it, but I didn't see a SSD thread going.

I am in the market for an SSD, and would like to know what everyone thinks is the best brand, type, etc.

Yeah I guess for $5 I wouldn't worry about the MIR, they both have 3 year warranty. OK phoenix pro LOL.

Also, if you could provide reasons why you think they are better, I would appreciate it. I have heard that TRIM support is better, but don't really understand why...

Well since you can't defragment a solid state drive, TRIM is a good feature to have.

Basically it's just bang for the buck. All SSD's are fairly good because of the access time, but these provide the greatest sequential read/write speed per dollar basically.

I would go for the G Skill. Had both and really could not tell the difference between the OCZ/G Skill. Honestly my opinion is probably bias because I dont really like OCZ as a company. I think there memory/power supplies are mediocre at best. Plus they ruined PC Power & Cooling reputation.

Besides Read/Write speeds and TRIM support, what do you look for?

Quality and IOPS. Anymore though both are not a issue as everyone has caught up/passed Intel's flagship x25-m drives in most areas. Most SSD also have Trim by default now as well.

Vertex 2 (plan to buy 120GB when it hits $150)
Intel X25-m
Crucial RealSSD C300
G-Skill Phoenix

Are the best 4 drives I can find. Oddly enough lot of "gaming" reviews I have seen the Crucial drives actually load a few seconds faster and the Intel x25-m was actually the slowest of the 4 which surprised me (its slower by 4+ seconds)

^^ I think he knows why SSD's are better than conventional, he's asking more like why are certain SSD's better than others.
