Best Video Card

Hey.
I was just wondering what some of the better video cards are for under $200.00. I will be doing some video editing with Adobe Premiere Pro, After Affects, and Photoshop CS. What are your experiences?

Contrary to common sense, photoshop and premier and stuff are CPU bound actions and dont use the videocard per se. If your only task is Photoshop/Premier, just about any videocard will do (cheaper the better). Now if you're looking to do gaming, you've got the 9600XT/9800Pro weighing in at about $100USD and the 6600GT at the $200 mark.
 
Great. I was hoping it wouldn't be around $200.00. I will be doing some gaming too, so the 9600XT/9800Pro are really good?

1. Between the two the 9800Pro is a better card (twice the pipes, tiwce the memory bandwidth). Id get the 98Pro
2. Dont get suckered into thinking 256MB of video memory is a world better than 128MB :) And its also not worth a $30 premium.

for a 9600/9800 you will need a AGP slot on your motherboard and a PSU that powerful enough to power it. Those are the only possiable hardware requirments I can think of.

Wattage dont mean much. What you really should look at is the amps on the 12V line. If you dont know the amps off hand it should be written on the side of the PSU. That being said more then likly it powerful enough to power a radeon 9800. Radeon recommend at least a 300 watt power supply for the 9800 pro.

Re there any good cards around $100 dollars? I will be doing light gaming, and a lot of video editing. You said editing is more involved with the CPU, right? SO i would just need a decent card for the games. Any suggestions?

Well a baseline 9600SE with 128MB comes in at 55 bucks .. you can get the nonSE version (which, if you want to ever consider gaming on the system, you do) you can get it for 70 bucks. Even better you can get a 9600Pro for 77 bucks. Right underneath your budget is the 9600XT at 98 bucks. The listing and pricing is given from little gaming to moderate gaming
 
It turns out I am getting a PCI-Ex16 MoBo instead of VGA. Any suggestions for a good video card around $120 +/- $10.00.
