well, i find the best way to make sure you have a secure connection is to try and hack into it yourself, pretending you have no clue what the password is
I would think that you would be able to tell when your internet runs really slow and/or your bandwidth data limit is more than usual, make sure you have a secure password and that it consists of numbers as well as letters and don't make it easy to guess.
