can someone explain the difference in the dual core v/s i3?

The i3 is dual core, the turion is made by AMD, instead of intel, which is who the i3 is made. i3 is better, but the 1st laptop will give better performance due to the dedicated GPU (5650). (graphics Card)

Though if thats all your using it for, a much cheaper laptop will suffice, or even perhaps a cheap netbook.
