Yes...make sure you're connected to the internet and click online battle or something like that(could be under multiplayer also).

BF2 is playable in both single and MMO (online) play. Although, you will only achieve ranks and commendations while logged into "ranked" EA servers.

Can't you achieve ranks in any server as long as it is a "ranked" server. I don't think it has to be an EA server.

Sorry, wasn't really clear enough, it has to be ranked by EA. So, yeah, any ranked server.
