BF2 Start Up Problem

My friend has finally bought Battlefield 2. However as soon as he downloaded it, it said that it needed a patch for the online multiplayer(I don't know about this because I havn't played my own copy in a while.) After he was done downloading the patch which took him a day and a half he went to boot up the application and the screen turned black as if it was transitioning from the desktop to the app and then it just died. This keeps happening. He has un-installed and removed ALL files from his folders and then installed again. He later bought another copy of BF2 and the same thing happens... any suggestions?

Well my friend has an X800 which is more than enough to power BF2's resolutions... so... anymore suggestions?
 
However his CPU and mobo are outdated and his card sticks out like a sore thumg when you open it up... GPU too advanced?
 
Haha agreed dude. However, he just told me that he was going to be getting a brand new PC soon...:mad: so i just told him to wait until he got his new computer
