Thanks! My current PSU is only 220W, so I am quite limited to what graphics card are available. Will the Geforce GT 240 be compatible with my PSU?

The Geforce GT 240 outputs 152W while idle, and 206W while stress.
GT 240 is pretty pointless for gaming too. Just save your money for a whole new computer, you're going to be nothing but disappointed with that machine if you sink any more money in to it.
And no, you'd want a new power supply for any new video card you get that would be any better than the 5450. I don't know what size your power supply is and buying a replacement is probably more money than it's worth since it won't be a standard ATX size.
This 7750 is the best video card that is low profile but you would need a new power supply.

I wouldn't really recommend that for games like BF3 anyway, so yes best to save up and get a new computer.
It plays it on medium settings fine with the same CPU as OP.

Now I totally agree, it's not really worth spending more money on that machine but people don't like to be told "you need to spend 600 bucks in order to play a game". Yeah it makes more sense to do that if possible but if their operating on a strict budget and that's all they can get, might as well help them out as best we can with what they've got.
