hi,

i bought a 7800 GTX OC PCI-E card and i changed the cooler/heatsink to the Arctic Cooling Silencer 5 (rev. 3)
everything went well. but i have one concern. theres a plate that goes on the back that sits on top of the memory. the original plate that goes on there was screwed into the original cooler but i cannot screw it into the new cooler. i was wondering if it is necessary for me to put that plate on using thermal paste?

a picture i found online since my brother borrowed my digi cam for new years.
that plate came with the AC silencer 5 but if you look at the picture very closely, there are holes where you can screw it in. i assume the person who took this picture used some type of thermal compound and pressed the plate onto the memory.

my question is, should i do the same? is it necessary or will i be fine without it. please tell me. i don't want to ruin anything.

thank you.

cheers

happy new year :)

you already have the NVsilencer? I hear that ram heatsink comes with self stickin thermal pad's on it.. the NVsilencer 5 seems to be sold a lot,.. so i dont think there are much issues with it. (I just ordered 2 of them for my 7800GTX's.. so I'll soon enough know how/if it works out ^^

thats how it looks like. the person who took this picture, must have taken the thermal compound off that was in the middle. there are 8 pieces of thermal for the memory, which on some graphics cards all 8 chips are on the front. but on the 7800 GTX there are 4 in the front and 4 in the back.
i just want to know if i should put that plate on the back using thermal compound. if its necessary or not.

It isn't necessary, but it would allow you to overclock your memory a bit more. If it fits, you might as well put it on.
