big difference btw Cat-5e and Cat-6 cabling?

Was looking at Tigerdirect.com. I would need I think 150 feet of ethernet cable. What I have on my current machine is Cat-5e. Says Cat-5e is 350MHz and Cat-6 is 550MHz.

Am I going to notice a difference in anything at all with Cat-6? I need it for another desktop computer, not the one I'm using now. I figure if it helps with attenuation or if it allows faster speeds, then I might as well pay the extra $22.

Thanks for any info.

I did the same recently. 150 ft is a long way. Think mine was a 100' and works fine. Its a higher quality cable. Might as well. Its done and over. best shot.

To be technical, what it does is allow for faster local transfer speeds. It won't effect your Internet speeds at all.

I saw Newegg has three different kinds of Cat-6 and also one Cat-7. But 6 is UTP and 7 is STP. I remember taking a class years ago on one disadvantage of shielded, but can't remember what it was. But, no way am I gonna spend that kind of money for 7 when 6 will do just fine. Thanks.

Thanks. I just wonder sometimes if 150 feet (my PC from the router/gateway) is allowing for slower local transfer speeds than if I was, say, 50 feet from it.

Cat 7 cable. that is interesting. Haven't seen that one yet.
Too late for though. Its done and over. 5 and 6 works fine.
Know what. See no diff. life is good.

Maybe not in your environment, but in a corporate environment you'd see a huge difference! Cat7 has more shielding than 5 and 6 allowing for better communication over the network with less interference.

Yeah, in a corporate setting. You would never be able to notice the benefits in a home setting, beyond some faster LAN speeds.
