BIG mozilla Thunderbird problem

Can someone help me with this stupid behavior of my thunderbird. I don't know what's wrong. I have installed the newest Mozilla thunderbird (english version), but I can't shut the program down (I tried task manager). Every time I close it, it re-opens. Before this version, I had the german version, and I had the same problem. The problem is also, that my computer tells me, that Thunderbird use the whole capasity of the system.
My system is xp - could the problem be there, or am I just too stupid to set up the program properly (I have been going through the whole program, but can't find anything there tells the program to be open all teh time)?
Can someone help me to shut down my program - please. Or I have to find myself another e-mail client, and I really don't want to do that, cause Thunderbird is a cool program.
Thanks.

Thunderbird problem

I have tried that, but 5 sec later, it starts up again.
And trust me, I was all the pref. through, and I see nothing there could change this kind of behavior of the program.

Im not familiar with thunderbird, but I understand its a email client? You may just need to re-install it, or sometimes the program is set to automaticly stay alive (connected), which is why it may not shut down. you might check under the tool or options for something like that. I would check to see if it sets to startup with the system, which can cuase problems sometimes. You can check this by going to run-type "msconfig", and look under startup.

I have it and it works fine for me, try reinstakking it, and if that dosent work, try something like outlook. if it is behaving weird, may be spyware or a virus. try going to the controll panle\add remove progrmas and then click on thunderbird and modify it. :)

I'll try

Well, I'll try to run some virus/spy check on the computer. But what I don't understand is, that if it is a virus or something mysterious evil - shouldn't more people be affected by it? and wouldn't people then know what I was talking about?

But - thank you for helping out. I'll return if I have good or bad news.
