Big Problem-Internet Drawing a Blank.

Hey everybody.
I have a very large small problem. I had a illegal copy of Win XP Pro on my comp., and I tried putting wireless internet onto it using a USB antenna. It got a signal, and I could ping my radio and AP, even websites, but when I actually tried to go to a web-site, it said the page could not be found. So I thought (And several other internet guru's thought) that it was my version of Win XP. So I ordered a legit copy of XP, to try and see if that would fix it. I installed it today, still the same problem. I don't get it at all. I know its not hardware, because it is just using the USB port. I dont think it would be software, because I completely deleted all the old stuff. I just dont get it! Does anyone have any ideas? I need help bad!!! BTW, the antenna worked on the other comp.'s also(And it works on mine too, I just cant browse.) Thanks for any help.

I'm gonna go out on a far stretched limb here but I think there is a small, microscopic chance that it may not be the best and brightest idea to post in a public forum that you are running an illegal copy of XP.

being a new install of XP i'd guess its not a virus unless you kept your files and it was in one..... anyhow...

were you able to browse web pages with your other network connection prior to installing the USB Wireless?
What is the signal strength of the wireless connection?
Try turning off the windows Firewall, and turning off your antivirus spam/adware/security_risks block options, then under the Tools menu in IE goto Internet_Options\Connections\LAN_Settings and untick all boxes.
Then try connecting to Google.com or Microsoft.com
If that works then just step backwards till you find exact cause.

First of all randruff, I bought the actual one because I didnt want to use the burnt copy. I no longer use it. The lady gave it to me, I tried it out, then bought the full version. And Scrat, this would be my first internet connection, so I never had internet before. The signal strength of the connection says Excellent signal strength. I'll try the advice you gave, thanks a lot for the responses.

can you load pages by IP? Perhaps it a DNS resolution issue on the XP machine?

Try pinging 64.233.187.104, then try loading it in your browser. It's Google's English site.

If that works, try statically assigned DNS on that XP machine.

I have forgotten how to ping. Do you type ping /64.233.187.104? I'll try that, but is that the right way? Thanks RockLobster.

Hey guys, good news. I got it working (I'm using it right now). It turns out when I installed my legal copy of XP, my old XP didnt get completely deleted. I never technically re-formatted my HDD. So I went back and did it the right way (Had it boot from the disc,) and that got rid of everything. Re-Installed it, and it worked. Thanks for all the helo everyone, i really appreciate everyone here.
