my specs:
e8400 processor
8800gts evga 512
gigabyte ep35-ds3p mobo
4 gigs of ram
700 w power supply
vista os

my problem is that when i boot up vista it is running unbelieveable slow. just now it took some 3 minutes to open the start menu. it was working perfectly fine when i put it together about a week ago. i did a virus check and there was nothing to show.
i think there is a problem with vista and i may have to reinstall it again. can anyone help me? i just spent $1500 on this computer and nothing is frustrating me more than this problem.

I've found a way to cure most of this kind of mysterious problems - make sure your antivirus and firewalls are up-to-date. Check for viruses, adware, spyware...just a virusscan might not help. Clean up your computer of unnecesary files and registry entries, CCleaner is the only program that i can think of right now, but there's heaps of way better ones, too. If none of this helps...maybe someone else can.

I would probably get some LiveCD distro of linux...knoppix or ubuntu, just to name a few. If other OSs run slow as well, there's something wrong with the computer. If not, it's something with Vista.

I suggest you return your vista OS and either buy a new one or get XP.

Also, try reinstalling HDD... etc

now that i think of it. i did install one windows update that is known to have driver issues. i completely forgot about it. i have to uninstall it in safe mode then.
