uh-oh thats not good.
Did u take the harddrive out of another computer? A computer with an OS on it?

If you did, you need to reformat, and then reinstall the OS.

Also, before anything else, check your caples :o!

That happened to me and i was about to get pissed then i noticed that my pwr cable wasnt plugged in!

post back results dude

all the parts are brand new from newegg. I just built it an hour ago. I'll check the power cord although Im pretty sure I saw/heard it working.

Internal cables too, and make sure it's not trying to boot from the virtual A: drive or whatever.

And maybe check your disk for scratches and clean it off.

what u have to do is make sure all cables are plugged in.
go into the BIOS find where u can change BOOT devices set it to BOOT from CD or DVD drive whatever it says then HDD, u might have to press any key to boot thow, an it will work, we went through this at school today

k, I tried switching the boot drives....didnt work. All the cables are plugged in....what could be wrong!? Im going crazy!

um, I think I may have found out the problem. My motherboard is sata 2 only.....I believe. I think both of the harddrives that were selected here are sata 1. Is that why It wont read them?? Or mby they're not formatted....AHH!!!

There backward compatible should not cause a problem. Just sounds like your not getting it to boot to the CD. On a Gigabyte board at the bottom of the first bios screen it say press --- key for boot order. Hit the key pick the drive the Vista cd is in and hit enter.

My friend and I have tried that numerous times. We actually ended up taking an old harddrive of mine from an older computer and it read it no problem. It was connected through the older wide thin cables (forget what their called).

ATA or PATA...

So you put your old HDD in and it found the DVD disk during POST?

well the old harddrive already had xp on it, but yea when we booted it up it tried starting and everything. Basically it went way farther than my two new harddrives.
