bios codes beeps/replacing memory, etc

Have a 4 year old Systemax Venture H356. Started giving me the beeps the other day...computer comes on but video does not come on. However, BIOS beeping (long, short short short) indicates "conventional/extended memory failure) I called Systemax and they confirmed this has AMI BIOS...the IBM BIOS code does indicate Video Display Circuitry problem, but I guess I'm going with the AMI BIOS.

I tried once to reseat the memory, no change. If I just buy new memory, will that solve problem? For $20 it seems worth the try, but maybe there is something else going on here.

It's not the monitor, as I switched out to another and it still doesn't work.

If I get new RAM, will that affect any stuff, memory-wise, that's on the HD?
Thanks.

Have you tried removing each RAM stick individually and tried booting with only one in?
Have you also tried to remove the CMOS battery for 15 minutes?

And yes, getting new RAM will not affect the files on your computer, that's your HD.

Well, I ended up removing the video card that I installed when I got the system four years ago...and using default onboard video, which looks crappy, of course..but now things seem OK, although system seems slow. I only have one stick of memory (1 gb), by the way, but thanks for suggestion. I also blew all the gunk and dust out of the video card, but that didn't seem to help that.

So maybe I'll try to get by with onboard video..

Could there be something wrong with the video slot on the motherboard, to which I attached the video card? I'd consider getting a new video card, but don't want system to repeat its problem if the problem is something with the video/motherboard connection (I have no idea how this stuff works, so excuse if that's a dumb question).
