Hi!

When I turn on my computer, everything sounds right interms of the fan, the LEDs light on, but it doesn't go into the post windows screen. So basically it turns on and does nothing.

So i ran this upgrading program that allows 6950 to function just like 6970. Since then, i couldn't do anything.

If you could help, that would be great!

Thank you,

Yea, the file was called "flash to 6970". So I assume it was flashed? It said it was completed so i received a message saying i should reboot.

Does your card have a BIOS switch on the back? If not, you have trouble.

You MAY have ruined your card... It is dangerous to flash a video card without a switch on the back.

and my cpu seems to be running a lot louder than ever when i turn on my computer. But my card''s fans are running fine..?

What exact model card do you have...do you have a link?

Because on some cards, people mistake the switch for been a bios switch, like on my card for example it has a switch but its for fan profiles/speed.....not bios.

Going from a review on that card on another forum,It appears that version could not be modded to HD 6970....so you have most likely bricked it,For now anyway.

You could try this method of fixing your 6950 if you have another spare graphics card lying around and your motherboard has 2x Pci-e slots,Although its not guaranteed to work.

When I got the card installed it everything seemed to flash okay. At the end of the process I needed to reboot, but when I attempted to reboot Windows shut down and then nothing came back. My computer wouldn't even POST anymore. I put my old HD 3870 back in and it POSTed fine this time, thought it complained about a BIOS error and reset all my settings (including my onboard RAID settings ). So I'm thinking - well there's $300.00 gone bye-bye. Being somewhat motivated to try and breath life back into my card I did some pretty crazy things,

  • I put my HD 3870 back in, emptied all my other card slots and moved some SATA connections so that I could put my HD 6950 into the second PCI-E slot (it's a big mother of a card and was covering the SATA ports on my M2N32SLI-Deluxe). My theory was, if I could boot with my HD 3870 and still "see" my dead HD 6950 then I might be able to flash it back to the backup I made of the BIOS. Well good thought (in theory). My computer booted and I was able to log into Windows! YEAH!!! Windows immediately saw the dead HD 6950 and started to install drivers for it. As soon as the drivers were installed and Windows attempted to initialize the card then my monitor went black (yes, the one pluged into the HD 3870) and my computer locked up. Sigh….

  • Working with the above theory, it tried going into Safe Mode to re-flash the card back to the original HD 6950 BIOS. No luck, ATIWinFlash doesn't allow it. It throws up a error about needing Administrative privileges. DAMN!!!!
  • I booted the "Last Known Good Configuration" in Windows 7 and rushed into the Device Manager before the system to could attempt to install the drivers for my dead HD 6950 and quickly disabled the card and it's HDMI audio device. The system was stable and stayed running! YEAH!!!!
  • I was finally able to re-flash the dead HD 6950 with the backup of the BIOS I made before this whole process started. YEAH!!!! After the re-flash of the HD 6950 I needed to reboot again. I crossed my fingers and everything worked!! YEAH!!!

So, how do you flash this? Do i use the ATIWinTools or whatever it was called to flash it? Then that means I need to have at least two graphics card (working one to actually see what i'm doing i suppose)?

you're supposed to put a program and a file on a flash drive then boot into it which it will then flash it in that from what i looked up, and if there's a different way inside windows, then it is almost definitely less safe. The thing is that not all cards are capable of flashing, and like someone said before, trying it anyways can basically destroy the card.

Yea, unless I have a professional knowing what he/she doing, i'm not going to attempt this again... :D

I still wonder why my card cannot be flashed? Or might have been something wrong in the process... I don't know XD

Your very lucky,Allot of people have permanently killed their cards from doing this.

Imo its not worth unlocking a 6950-6970 anyway,The performance increase isn't that big to be honest...certainly not worth the risk Imo if you don't have have that backup bios switch.

Only reference cards can be unlocked, that one is not a reference. Glad to see you got it fixed though.

And I agree with Nevakonaza, it's not even really worth unlocking. Just overclocking mildly will net you stock 6970 performance.

Ah, thanks so much for the help guys.

Overclocking isn't the same as flashing the BIOS? I've never done any overclocking, and I'm not sure what's required to overclock my graphic card or the CPU :S
