BIOS Password problem....

I've acquired an HP Omnibook 900 laptop. I can't get into the system because it keeps asking for a password. I've been all over the internet and nothing suggested (so far) has worked. I did see a site where the person said to press the F12 key at the password screen and that will generate a number. If you send the number to him with some cash he'll give you a code that supposedly will work. I don't know anything about this guy so I'm not about to send him any money. But there must be a way to translate the "hash key" as he calls it into the code that the laptop will accept. Is anyone familiar with this or know how to do it? Thanks!

Depends. On an few laptops (Compaq E500) The battery is right under the power button. I say look under all the covers... You'll see an silver round thing, unplug that and it should reset the BIOS with no password.

Thanks for the replies... The battery suggestion was mentioned in my internet search. BTW, I'm not looking to do anything illegal here.... A friend gave me this laptop after he had it for a couple of years. I have no clue where he got it. Turns out he had the same problem and it just sat in his closet until about a week ago. He asked if I could use it and now I have it. Of course he never mentioned the password issue. It's not really worth putting any money into it, so I thought someone here might have an easy solution.

I did the same thing with an old ThinkPad that was an IBM work computer. The little silver battery was under a cover in the bottom of the laptop. I just disconnected it for a few hours, then re-connected it. And now it starts up without the BIOS password.
