hi

I recently put a 2nd hand ram in my destop as it was running slow. I pulled out both my 1gb and 512 (checked what way the first went in) and then put them back in as well as another 1gb stick. I believe my pc has a limit of 2gb which i didnt realise.

When booted i get the following message:

Award Bootblock bios v1.0

Scanning BIOS image in hard drive

BIOS Auto-recovering....................

and then the dots keep going, had on for hours it doesnt do anything, ive tried taking ram back out and putting only in what i had and same thing. After googleing for ages i tried putting wincris on another harddrive (had to use dvd cable (other drive uses larger plug) as orginal hard drive was one of those small cords ata or sata?) disconnected the orginal hard drive. Then got something along the lines of cant detect image on harddrive.

Tried usb and another drive. Dont have a floppy on my laptop so cant put anything on a floppy to try. We tried 2 different versions i believe one was v2.2 (my bf did it not quite sure) when everything failed. I tried another drive same as dvd port again and this time got on my motherboard site and downloaded the bios (tried 2 different ones on the list for my motherboard) and again same thing..

Gigabyte GA-8I848P-G motherboard, Pheoniex Bios 1998 686 bios chip. Dont know much about pc's about to throw it away its driving me nutts but i need a destop for my sons school stuff, etc..

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Have you tried removing the CMOS battery out of the motherboard, and putting it back in? That will clear any BIOS settings.
