Bios Problem

First off i would like to say hello. I am obviously new to the forum. But not Completely new to the computer realm. So I do know some ins and out of computers. But this Is outa my league so far.

I just got a free computer today no cords nothing. SO i unhooked my own Pc. And plugged all my other wires into the free one. The problem with the free computer is just wouldn't boot into windows vista. So im like alright this will be easy. Ill just use my Flash drive with win 8.1 on it and update. SO i started to do so. When computer loaded up I changed my Bios to load with my flash drive. WHen i got to the activation screen. ANd had to put the key in. I didn't right down the key. So i turned off the free computer and switched over to My own to Get the Key. So i turn back on the free pc. ANd i feel stupid. But now the computer is trying to boot on the usb drive and it has no bios on it. So I have no idea what to do at this point. I feel stupid. Just would like to get this free pc working correctly. Cause it is a nice machine.

You have a Windows computer already, why not make this a Linux machine instead.

I don't understand. How is the computer booting with no BIOS? It shouldn't.
