I get 3 splash screens at startup. 1st) Asus splash screen. 2nd) as in pic, JMicron checks for drives and doesn't find any. 3rd) Asus splash again. I would like to have no slpash and go straight to Windows if that's possible. Or, just 1 Asus splash.

Also, do I understand the Sata options correctly?
For SATA type I can configure to AHCI if i choose.
And setting sata 5&6 to IDE allows system to detect sata optical? Or only IDE for os installation, then

Lastly, I should be able to install only the features wanted from the motherbaord cd. Yes? An example would be the EPU energy optimizer prog. with which there is a chip.

To get rid of the splash screen and minimize startup messages go to the Boot heading in the BIOS, then Boot Settings Configuration, and make sure Quick Boot is enabled and Full Screen Logo is disabled. I think you can get rid of the Jmicron controller search message by going to the Advanced heading then to Onboard Devices Configuration and disable Onboard ATA Controller. I believe that setting enables or disables the EIDE header on the MB which you apparently are not using. At least that's what it does on my ASUS board, but the wording on my board says, Jmicron controller. Shouldn't hurt to try it anyway.

For your MB CD, I'd instead go directly to the ASUS support site and download the needed drivers and MB support programs, some have surely been updated since the production of your CD.

Not sure about your SATA options.

I've read that art. b4. Since I'm doing a clean on 7 to an ssd I was planning on setting the AHCI in the bios beforehand. I didn't mention that that was the reason for the switch, so Thank You for that. Perhaps in the bios 1st, then check it in windows if all goes well? And if I’m one of the few that has a problem with the drive in that mode, then plan B?

Didn’t hurt a bit. Thank you too, for making that a quick & easy fix. I guess that controller check made it have to go back to the Asus splash before it could go to Windows, so down to 1 splash.:)

And have they ever. A whopping 9 :eek: in utilities alone since May 7th. So thanks for the heads up.

My motherboard's bios is v 1456 dated May '04, 2010. Are versions changed if they apply to the need, otherwise stick with the same version and just update? There's 1 bios update 1606, and one for my current 1456. I won’t be running 2 nividia cards as described in 1606. I’m thinking not to flash it to a new version, just update the current one. Pls let me know.
The os is 7 x64.

1) 1 bios update for 1456 and released after my May 4th? (booster fix)
1 new bios utilities "Flash BIOS tool under DOS.": Yes
1 new chipset driver: Yes
1 new LAN: Yes.
2) 9 utilities updates since my May 4th. Does the latest have the rest?

ATI has a newer catalist for HD4290 as well. Don't think I need the APP version. Optional Downloads has 4 updates. 3 of which are (a)South Bridge, (b)RAID, (c)AHCI for Windows 7.

It appears a,b,c are diff. from the Asus updates so ..
3) They are different so get them all?

1) OK to update 1456 and 1 bios utility and installed the rest from a thumb drive? (would prevent me from having to wait afterwards to get them online)
2) Just the latest will have everything from the previous 8 as well?
3) Need all? ie both RAID, both ACHI?
If these ^ 3 are yes, I count 10 updates.
Do I need to flash to 1606 because of all 9 utilities/other updates this board doesn't have?
Anything else?

1) I don't see why not, though, you can just download all the latest drivers/programs to your storage drive and install them from there (after you unzip them of course). I always update to the latest BIOS version unless it says the update fixes one or two small bugs that don't apply to me.

2) The latest BIOS will include everything from previous updates - You don't need to install all in sequence.

3) It's kind of a crap shoot what drivers/programs you really need to install. The descriptions usually don't give a lot of information or give information that I don't understand. However, installing something you don't really need usually doesn't cause any problem - Just takes up some drive space.

If you do decide to update the BIOS, be careful. I use the updater built into the BIOS - Seems to be the easiest and most straightfoward to me. I think you press Ctrl+F2, (or something like that), during boot.

I think I have it now.
Update current 1456 bios and bios utility(1each). They go to the chip on the board.
Load other updated drivers/programs that i can find from sites, to alt drive.
Install ssd & os.
From motherboard cd:/some programs, ommiting any newer versions already on alt drive/ & /driver package/.
Updates from alt drive.
Misc prog.'s from their cd's and check for updated drivers for those.

Any driver that may be on both sites = install earilest then latest, so if it is for the same - it'll have the latest.
