BIOS update

Now then chaps, not often I ask for help but am interested in what if any BIOS updates were available for my MB. I would only think of updating if there was a real advantage to it.

Motherboard ASUS P5KPL
BIOS version 0126 (26th July 2007) shown on bootup

I went to the Asus site and under "Support/Download" inputted the -

Product - Motherboard
Socket - 775
Select Models - P5KPL
then it asked for the OS - WinXP, then I expanded BIOS history but it tells me the first release was 0203 (19th August 2007), I'm confused.

From what i can see on that motherboard, the only bios updates are to enable newer cpus to work.....not any other changes.

This board right?

Personaly,if your not having any problems with your system then i wouldnt bother updating it,Unless of course you plan to upgrade your Cpu and you require that newer Bios for it to work :)

It was more out of boredom really :D
As you say the updates are for more CPU support but I couldn't understand why it said the first version was 0203 when my version is 0126  so I began to doubt if I was looking at the right page.
When I go to Windows 7 in October I was thinking of perhaps a quad core replacement but it is already supported by this BIOS anyway.

Usually the first bios release on the update page is the first released one after the original bios that was installed on the board when it was new. (first came out)

The bios was the first (updated) bios.

Cheers Stranglehold, it all makes sense now you mentioned it. As I am thinking of moving over to 64 bit Windows 7 in October I was looking at anything that may be of benefit, but there was nothing other than CPU updates.

They dont really say what 203 and 302 beta was for. 203 might have been for some issues with the board at the time. 302 was probable a Beta of the 314 bios.

Oh well, I'm not having any problems so I'll leave well alone. Just looked at my motherboard driver disc for chipset, audio and lan and it has Vista 64 bit drivers on it so I can't see a problem albeit them being a bit outdated.

Just ordered 2x2 GB ddr2 ram from Crucial, unfortunately the chipset has a maximum memory of 4 GB, but should be ample in everyday use.

Just trying to make sure I'm not lost for anything that would stop me getting on the internet for updating all drivers. :)
