Bizarre problem with my 2 yo gaming PC

Hello, greetings everyone

I have a gaming PC that is more than 2 years old. The specs are as follows:
AMD FX8120
Cooler Master 212
ASUS MA99X
Corsair 8GB
Sapphire 6850
Xigmatek TAURO 600W
NZXT 410
And some other unimportant bits

So it was running really nicely for 2 years... Until some time ago it started behaving stupidly. Then, got it working fine again... Until it has been behaving bizarrely as of nowadays.

Here's the problem. When you boot it, it seems like everything is normal. But then, just after some minutes of using it the monitor just displays one colour or it would seem like it lost signal. No matter playing game, or just browsing on chrome it happens.

Cpu seems normal, GPU seems too. I even successfully ran 3DMark11 and got an acceptable score. Before I franticly troubleshoot, what do you guys think cause this problem? It's probably not software related as reinstalling windows does not solve. I also don't think it's the PSU. There is no sign of it failing whatsoever, plus it received high standards on many reviews. The main board seems fine too.

Please help. Regards, disc.

Is this your motherboard? You didn't post the correct model number.

Could be 4 things.

1. Video Card
2. Memory
3. Power supply
4. Motherboard

So for diagnosing the issue you need to...

1. try a different video card
2. Run memtest on your memory
3 Try a different power supply.
4. Update motherboard bios possibly. What bios version are you running?

Follow John's advice by all means, but if you have 2 sticks of RAM, try each stick individually and see if the problem persists. I had a similar issue and found it to only occur on one stick of RAM until I increased the speed.

Excuse me for the wrong model number.

Thanks for all those advices. I will start doing those things. I'll go back after.

Good night guys... Nice news here. After a lot of trouble shooting I got the conclusion that it was the GPU that seems to likely cause the problem. I think it fails... I have to check the memory too though it may be fine I'll be a good idea just to check it. Thanks for all the help guys.

Yes... I may wait for next gen 20nm cards. Maxwell 28nm still doesn't do for me. I will probably stay with low end ones as of now.

Before you do anything, please replace the VGA cable.

Did I miss something, didn't think he stated what cable type the connection used (and from memory isn't dvi or even hdmi more common these days?)

Also glad to see I'm not the only one who has had some weird ass effects of dying gpus haha.
