Black Edition?

So for my Phenom 2 build, I was looking at the 955 for the longest time. As I plan on OC'ing it, it's unlocked multiplier was a big attraction. Now I'm leaning towards the 945 seeing as how it's significantly cheaper (almost $100 CAD) I realize the stock speeds won't make much difference, but how much of an OC penalty will I find seeing as how I'll be relying on the FSB instead of the multi to increase core speed? Either way, I'll be going with the 945, I'm just curious.

You should wait for when they release the 965.... Hopefully then the 955 will drop in price, I heard somewhere of a mid august release.

I already had full intention of getting myself a decent aftermarket cooler. I said I wanted to overclock it, not cook with it lol. Haven't heard anything on the 965's. Will they be black eds. at 3.4-3.6 Ghz or something? That seems kinda pointess to me. Not that I'll be complaining about a price drop, but two BE's with only a 200-400 mhz increase for an extra god knows how much? Definitely not my cup of tea.

Well, they wont be like intel and charge $1000 for the highest end one, it will prolly only cost $40-50 more, and would prolly drop the price of the 945 and 955's.

The price drop I get, and for that reason I'm quite looking forward to its release lol. But seeing as how the BE's are aimed at overclockers, why would they pay the 40-50 bucks for the 200 mhz when they're just going to wind up well past that anyway? Unless they make some kind of changes to the architecture allowing it to consistently overclock much better, say past the magic 4Ghz mark, I don't see it being worth the mark-up. If the 955 wasn't unlocked, I'd understand, seeing as how many people are usually willing to shell out extra cash for the multiplier. Do you see where I'm coming from with this, or am I just running myself in circles?:P

Higher clocked cpu's usually run at lower voltages for their speed than say, if you overclocked a lower speed cpu, which means they have more room too add voltage, which in turn can mean higher clocks.
