I need you to post a log that combofix creates but doesn't automatically show you. Please navigate to C:\Qoobox and in that folder will be a file named add-remove programs.txt. Please open that file and copy and paste the contents back here.

Rerun tdsskiller and tell me if you get same results.
 
I subscribe to "VIPRE" only. I have not subscribed to McAfee for several years, however it still shows up in "Start, explore, programs (x86)", Efforts to remove all traces of McAfee anything using "Control Panel" or through listing under "programs(x86)" have always failed getting some message of not being available to webpage, invalid or something. I would love to get rid of it but even using "McAfee, uninstall" under programs does nothing.

I'm pasting the end items of a really long log after trying to uninstall McAfee. Can't seem to get rid of it.

I think things will be OK but I have some desktop placement to do. Many folders and pictures are not on the desktop but show under "desktop" when browsing files to open.

Thanks so much. I wish I could keep this problem from happening in the first place. I thought my "Vipre" program would stop an attack. One thing, icons still don't appear in the "Start" list, idea? Again, many thanks.
 
The start menu list can be rebuilt by reinstalling the programs or finding the exe file and copying it to the start menu. However, with mcafee not fully uninstalling, I would actually break down and do a fresh install of windows at this time so everything is back to normal and you have no issues. You will have to back up any data you don't want lost.

Not one antivirus program if full proof. New malware comes out on a daily basis and unless the program you are running has the proper definitions for it, then you will get infected.

I would suggest after you get windows reinstalled to download and install malwarebytes and run it every few days. You will have to manually update it, it doesn't update automatically.
 
I think I'd rather not reinstall windows if possible. I have a number of photo/illustration and office/word processing programs and the time and effort to reinstall all of them would be a pain (to me anyway). Again, thanks a lot.
 
johnb35, as a trial I reset Windows to an earlier date (as early a date offered). Icons that were missing on the desktop reappeared, the start menu items reappeared. This was several days ago as I wanted to be sure everything help up Okay, and it has. Thought this may be of interest.
