black screen of death

ok the computers at work (a school) some of them for no reason after it loads and before it go's to the log on screen it gets a plain black screen and the mouse curser thats all.. we can not figure out what is doing this.. i did fix one when it first happend i got annoyed so riped out the power cord calmed down put it back in re-booted the pc and woah it worked again.. but it hasnt worked for the other computers.:confused::confused::confused::mad:
 
ok the computer loads and does everything but when it try's to load the loag on screen "ctrl+alt+del" bit, it go's to a compleatly black screen with the mouse curser thats all.. we have had a few and if we re-immage them they work but we have no clue what is causing it
 
i think thats happen because of virus. i suggest you to format this pc because if you connect to other pc .for remove virus the virus can spread in working pc so may be that problem is occurs in the working pc. so format it .

yeah when something happens like that its best to take a sizable sledge hammer and- im just kidding lol... ive seen that before. the technical term is, the computer is F'd. i agree with wiliamsmith10, that would be your best/safest option if it is indeed a virus.

wouldn't say virus, personally

in my experience computers in schools are (as you said) imaged, and run as clients off the servers. Your problem could be on the server and windows updates causing errors, or some misplaced system files.

my question - has this re-occured on a computer that was re-imaged?
 
How strict are the policies on the school computers? sometimes students can... exploit weaknesses.

for example once you're logged on you can do Ctrl + Alt + (arrow key) to rotate the screen... very annoying!

Also, sometimes stuedents can gain access to command prompt and run things normally they're not allowed to...

try hitting f8 and booting into safemode with networking and run some updates.

yea we are pretty strict.. they are blocked from command prompt lol can be annoying sometimes.. when i was a student last year we used to muck up all the time so i know some of the students and they will tell me some shit they do.
 
Seems you just have to reimage them then, they do that at my school too... but god damn they are so slow to startup and logon, not to mention still using IE6 which is fail.
 
What's happening here, is the throst temperature is too high (or low). It's an option in many programs but should be carefully selected when using the system, if the result is to be as accurate as possible. A high value should be used only where it is known that the Plime Quotient is counterbalanced by local variances. Some values may not be available in some areas.
