black screen of death

Can anyone help??

I have a hp g62, was working on it and put it down to go and get something, come back 5mins later and the screen is black. The wifi light is orange but the caps lock light won't come on.

I've tried battery removal / pressing power button for 60secs. I've also tried connecting it to another monitor but nothing happened. Same again when I swapped RAM around, nothing.

I felt like the laptop was really hot the other day, could over heating be an issue and if so will it have affected the motherboard in a serious way? And what can I do about it?

What did you set it down on? If you have removed the battery and held the power button for enough time, then that should reset the cmos. If it over heated, you could have damaged the motherboard or processor. How old is the machine?
