Black screens in games

just a noob

I'm needing some advice as to what is wrong with my setup. Lately(like the last day or two) I keep getting these black screens in games(usually like after 30 seconds or less). My monitor goes to sleep, and I have to restart my system. The keyboard is nonresponsive during this(like pressing caps lock/numlock does nothing).

everything is at stock
i7 920
3gb of dominator@1600mhz/1.65V(passed memtest)
gtx 580(not overheating)
evga classified(the one without the n200 chips)
Silencer 610 PSU(41 amps on the 12v rail so it should be fine)
Windows xp 32bit

Did a system restore to last Friday(when I wasn't having problems), removed all my old drivers using driversweeper, redownloaded the newest ones, still have the problem.

The GTX 580 requires at least a 600w PSU with 42A on the 12v rail so yours is basically at the very minimum, so that could cause some issues when the GPU needs to draw power that simply isn't there. Do you have another one you could swap it out with to test and see? Also does your PSU have more than one 12v rail or just one?

Just the one, and I was wrong about the 12v rail, it's 49A not 41

It could be a GPU or Monitor issue. Since you said it's freezing and keyboard is non-responsive I'd say it's the GPU. That 41 amps is also for the whole system plus a 580, not the 580 on its' own.

GTX580 TDP = 244W (divide it by 12, you get 20.4A, which is actual draw of the card under full load)
