i pciked up some dvd's at my local store, when i asked for them the lady asked if my dvd burner was a plus or a minus. i didnt know so i got some discs that were minus and they dont work

does anyone know anything about this plus/minus thing ?

p.s.

lol, want a good deal on fift blank dvds.

It was originally started by 2 consortiums. Some like Pioneer invented the minus - media and some companies like Sony created plus +.

Most burners now are going dual-format, so they can burn DVD+R and DVD-R but originally there were ones that burned the specific formats. Of the two -R was the one to be officially favoured.

Here's an old article on it: http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/110

Where do you live? (country ;)) Makes it easier to know, I only know UK-based media sites for example.

Well part of it has to do with the burning process .. +R is CAV (constant angular velocity) which means as time progresses, the burn speeds will just get faster, -R is CLV (constant linear velociyty) which means they will eventually run into a ceiling

what i ahve heard is the way it burns files, clusters them, one is better for data, and one is better for video, but thats just me ;)
