Blank Screen ??

G'day to everyone out there.

I'm new to the forum and have limited knowledge of computers, so I'll probably be asking some really dumb questions.

My first question is regarding a used computer I just bought. It's an Ipex Pentium 4 CPU 3.2GHz with 1G RAM. Nothing flash but better than the one I'm using now.

It came without an OS. I intend to load Ubuntu onto it to trial a Linux system.

So here is my first dilemma: When I plug my monitor in (17" CRT with power connected) and start the PC nothing appears on the screen. There are two ports the monitor plug will fit in on the back of the PC and I've tried both.

Any ideas will be much appreciated.

if it wont even let you get into BIOS then there is no other option unless you check you gpu provided you have one... or you could buy one of those and see if it works...

Soooo, what you are saying is the new PC will probably only run a digital monitor, is that right?

2nd dumb question: what's a gpu?

im saying that digital monitor is nothing to do with it but if that monitor wont do anything you need a new one and GPU = Graphics Proccesing Unit

Ok..sorry.

The monitor I'm talking about is the one I'm using right now and it works perfectly on this PC, so why do I need a new one?
