i have a Dell Dimension 2400 here, i was told that it just started doing this... when i try to turn it on i justget the I/O light blinking an amber color. no other action that i can see, no fans either.

i pull all the power cables from the floppy/rom/hdd. and still nothing. i tried using my extra/tester PSU and the fans would come on but the light would stay a constant amber color. but still no action on the screen.

has anyone had this problem or know what else i can do to test it?

thanks.

There should be information on that at the Dell support site if not found in the troubleshooting section of the manual that comes with the system. http://support.dell.com/support/top...=en&lnki=1&s=gen&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_CEL_2400

The only information found for that model points out light codes, audio alert beep codes, and what you can't see sounding like onboard or installed video card problems is system error messages. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim2400/en/sm_en/advtshoo.htm

hmm well its not booting up so the lights on the back are not even activated. i'll keep looking in the manual. thanks pceye

Hopefully the board didn't foobar on you like it happened here on the new build. After the first 3 days the board said "good bye cruel world". doa time! So far the replacement has been a champ so far. "whew!"

A failed hardware like cpu, memory, video card would sound off while a bad cap on the board means real trouble.

grr, i dont like the sound of that. well i guess i'll take it up to the local shop and have them do some further testing :'(
thanks for your help.

The link there is for an entirely different model. But the lack of any beeps and nothing coming up onscreen suggests a board problem there. The other thing to consider is a dead battery rather then a board going doa on you. I've seen that before. That will give the appearance of a dead board for the $3 calculator battery used.
