Blue icon lit when laptop is shut down.

A friend at work has a Compaq Presario CQ61-417SA laptop. When the laptop is shut down the blue light at the front of the laptop is still lit - no blinking, but lit.

I have made sure that the laptop is shutting down and not hibernating or in standy. The icon is like a little lightning symbol.

Does this just mean the battery is low and how do I get rid of it?

Wow. It only took you five months to get back to me. ;)

Well, if a light is on and it is not plugged in, I don't believe it is actually shutdown. It must be on Standby, Hibernate, etc. Please describe exactly how you are going about shutting it down.

If you are convinced it is shutdown, then pull the battery out while it's off and unplugged and wait until the light goes out. Then put the battery back in. If the light comes back on, then you know that the computer is in fact off and that the light runs from battery power - perhaps as an indicator that the battery still has a charge? If the light stays off, then we know the computer wasn't truly "off" to begin with.

Hell, I don't know. I've never seen a light like that in my experience.

Try to reply a little quicker this time. Thanks! :D

Oh - well, Yahoo! Answers has this to say:

The flashing lightning bolt symbol means that the battery doesn't have enough juice to turn the system on. Plug in your AC adapter and try to power it up again.

If the laptop is already plugged in to AC power and the battery isn't charging, there might be an issue with the adapter itself, or with the AC plug on the laptop itself, which will need servicing to fix.

So there you have it. ;)

Thanks for the reply, it looks like the adapter needs replacing.

Sorry about the delay I was asked again about the issue that I completely forgot about!

I need to stay more active on CF.
