I get a blue screen on my Dell Dimension 4100 that is running XP. Here are the details.
This morning, I googled the words 'virus scanner,' and firefox shut down. Odd, I tried it again, and the same thing happened. I searched 'virus' and 'trojan,' and the same thing happened. Tried in IE, same thing. (Other google searches worked fine). I found a free scanning software online, and had about 70 infections. It wouldn't let me clean it up without purchasing it, so I decided to do it myself. (Big mistake)
I found the files it was pointing to with the highest threats and deleted them, along with the registry entries. I restarted and the same problem still occured. So I disabled everything from starting up, through the Registry and msconfig and all that stuff.
I restart and I get the same mistake. So I go to msconfig and select /safemode from boot.ini, and restart. Blue Screen. This is what it says:
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps.
Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Any help would be appreciated. I can't even boot into Safe Mode. I don't know how to run CHKDSK.
