Hey everyone,
So my 2nd ram slot (second from cpu) is no good apparently, I have an older computer and I upgraded from 1gig to 2 recently and when I made the changes I started to get blue screens of death. It ran fine with 1.5 gigz in there so I ran memtest86 with the 2 gigz and got some errors so I decided to reformat hoping that it just wasn't accepting the new memory for some odd reason unless it had a fresh start with it.
So I reformatted and ran memtest86 again and it came back fine (several tests done on it). So I started running windows setting everything up and started to see little things go wrong at first (didn't run as fast as when I had 1.5gigz in there and odd things happening when I started movies or something on my comp) so I just decided to take out the memory from the slot 2 (after diagnosing it was that slot and not the new memory... or I'm pretty sure at least).I have tried all different combination of the old memory and new memory for diagnosing purposes
Anyways so I took it out and went on with getting everything back up, but now I'm at the point where I have my system all setup the way I like it, however I seem to still be getting blue screens of death when I do certain things (trying to watch a youtube video on the website being an easy way to get one).
So my question is, Do you think it is the 2nd ram slot (of course I know its hard for you to tell, no big deal if you can't answer that one) and second and most important. Is there anyway I can hopefully recover my system without reformatting again. Hoping maybe I can run something to refresh the comp to tell it that the bad memory is out already (its knows its out telling me I have 1.5, but still getting errors). Or maybe refresh the system files if that would help. My exp with this kind of problem is limited and just need some tips. If they don't work I could reformat if I have to *cry*.
I'm running windows xp home editon btw, and the blue screen of death are stuff like "scsiport.sys" error and physical memory dump errors.
Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance. Would appreciate any feed back for this problem.
