Blue Screen Of Death

I'm running Windows XP sp2, and ever since I had some spyware/adware problems a while back my computer has randomly been crashing and giving me a blue screen of death. I thought that normally the BSOD gave you some sort of information as to what program or driver may have caused the problem, but when it happens to me all I get is the usual error text and a long hexadecimal error code... I didn't happen to write it down either.
Anyways, I'm afraid that I may have damaged/deleted some important windows system file or something... any advice?
Can I find what's causing the problem with the event viewer or anything?

Try logging into safe mode and see what happens.
Also take note of the error code and search for it on MS website.
If you are sure it's not hardware related probably windows is corrupt or some files missing.

It runs fine when I'm in safe mode.
I'll search the error code on microsoft.com next time it happens.
The problem is with my laptop, to which I have added no new hardware, and what's weird is that it's done it like twice at startup, but usually it will just happen randomly in the middle of using just about any application... and not even all the time. It will go away for a day or two and then come back and plague me for hours...
Is there any way to check whether or not any of my core windows files are corrupted?

:( no answers yet...
Is there any sort of tool I can use to check whether or not my windows system files are still intact?

Write down the code and search it on the MS site.

But more importantly, back up your personal files.

do you get anything once you restart that it tells you to send to microsoft cause if it does send it to microsoft they might tell you what is wrong
