Hi everyone.First post and not too computer savy!I have a HP pavillion a6152 desktop with vista.400 gig hd 3072 system mem, core 2 quad processor q 6600Its two yrs old..OK my problem is I got this blue sreen with instructions that widows shut down to prevent damage to my comp.Sytem repair couldnt fix it and I cant boot it up even in safe mode.It would even boot with a boot disk.I wanted to access the mirror partition to reinstall the OS but cant boot or start the comp to do that either!I bought a new comp, but would like to salvage this one to give to my daughter. What advice can any of ya give me to do that.Buy an off the shelf OS?If so it had Vista----yuk! Should or can I install win 7?I'm grsping at straws here.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.ItchyBrother.

When you say it can't boot from disc, what does it do?

If you know what the insides of your system look like, take the side panel off your computer and find a jumper pin (3 or 4 pins with a coloured plastic cap over it, very small) which will say cmos reset, reset, something similar to that next to it.

When you have found it, take it off, put it on the pin that wasn't covered and the middle one, turn your computer on, leave it for a few seconds, then turn it off by holding your power button. Now switch it back to the original pins it was over and see if it finds it now.

I made a back up disk, like HP says to do when ya first buy the comp.It doesnt do anything to help. The light on the drive blinks a little but nothing happens to start it up ,just goes back to the blue instruction screen. It says that windows has shut down as to not damage the computer,to restart the comp and if it doesnt work to try it in safe mode which I did and it didnt work.I tried all the diff start modes and the same screen came up.It sounds like you think it may just be a bad connection?Should I open it up and disconect the connections one at a time and reconnect them?I recently reinstalled the OS and then it worked fine a month later it went to install service pack 1 and thats when it stopped working. It did the same thing once b4 and thats why I accessed the partition and reinstalled the os.This time I couldnt access the partition.I thought about removing service pak one but couldnt get it started to even do that.ItchyBrother
